About Us

Napa County Wildlife Habitat Conservation Coalition is an ad hoc committee of Local Environmentally Focused Organizations and Individuals advocating for Open Space Preservation, Restoration and Wildlife Conservation throughout Napa County.

Our coalition brings together a diverse group of voices in both the Public and Private sectors, all united by a shared commitment to provide and ensure Healthy Habitat for Local Plants and Wildlife.

How We Work

Each month we come together to identify where critical habitats are most at risk and to share the latest information and insights.

Through organizing, researching, testifying, collaborating, and strategic planning, we actively support conservation initiatives across Napa County – working to protect the land, wildlife, and ecosystems that make this region so special.

Recent Actions

Protection

We organized a Bioblitz along Sheehy Creek in the Gateway East Business Park to highlight its ecological value. This area is now threatened by a proposed winery development that could severely disrupt the critical wildlife corridor. Our efforts aim to document species and raise awareness of the creek’s importance.

Education

In collaboration with ICARE, the City of Napa, the Audubon Society, the Golden State Salmon Association, and Vintage High School, we created and installed educational signs along Salvador Creek. These signs inform the public about the annual migration of Chinook salmon and are part of our mission to prevent fish harassment during spawning season.

Opposition

We led community opposition to the Green Island Vineyard development in American Canyon, a 157-acre project bordering sensitive wetlands and the estuary. Working with Sierra Club, Greenbelt Alliance, Napa Solano Audubon Society, and Save the Bay, we mobilized public testimony and organized outreach to protect this key habitat.

Advocacy

To support long-term regional conservation, we launched a countywide letter-writing campaign advocating for a habitat conservation plan. Every major environmental organization in Napa participated, and in January 2025, we presented the collective letters to the Napa County Board of Supervisors in a formal appeal for action.

How We Started

We are stronger together:  Our Coalition was formed in response to multiple local environmental organizations working separately on overlapping issues. Together, the Napa County Wildlife Habitat Conservation Coalition (NCWHCC) aims to increase inter-organization communication and collaboration, advocating for increased Public awareness, outreach and action. Together, we can preserve Napa County, where we and wildlife not only survive, but flourish.
